Social Solidarity Minister Ghada Wali propped up the idea of erecting a big tree in the Downtown Cairo square of Tahrir representing Egyptians' celebrations of the anniversary of Mouled el Nabawi (Prophet Muhammad birthday) and the Christmas.
The tree idea was suggested by youths on social media networks.
The Nile Ritz-Carlton Hotel bore the expenses of erecting the tree that sends a message of love and peace to the entire world, Wali noted in statements to MENA on Thursday.
The tree came to daylight in 72 hours, she added.
The two occasions occur in one week.
Frosted with hundreds of electric bulbs, the seven meter high tree resembles both the ‘Mouled doll’ and a Christmas tree with a golden star at the top, with the aim of allowing both Muslims and Christians to relate to the tree.
The Christmas-Mouled tree was lit for the first time Wednesday night.
