The Sudan National Dialogue External Relations Committee balked at tension in Sudan's Darfur region, accusing parties - which it did not name - of seeking to torpedo the ongoing comprehensive national dialogue and hamper Sudan's march for development and democracy.
The committee called on the presidency to swiftly intervene to end violence in Darfur's Geneina town, committee member Ibrahim Matar said in statements on Tuesday, noting that Sudanese parties and armed movements have agreed upon 33 points.
The committee called for enhancing the armed forces' role and bringing to justice those behind the Geneina tension.
About 12 people have been killed in three days of Geneina town. Tensions had developed after an unidentified group attacked the village of Mouli on January 9, displacing large numbers of residents to the town of Geneina, where they protested the next day at the governor's office, leading to the closure of local businesses and schools.
