The Sudanese authorities released 100 Egyptian fishermen, who have been detained over illegally entering the Sudanese territorial waters, the Foreign Ministry said Thursday.
The Egyptian embassy in Khartoum and the consulate in Port Sudan are finalizing travel procedures for the return of the released fishermen on the three boats they were detained aboard, ministry spokesman Badr Abdel Aati said.
Egypt’s leadership, government and Foreign Ministry thank the Sudanese authorities for their cooperation to resolve the issue, the spokesman added.
Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has been following up the issue since the beginning and had ordered the embassy and consulate to offer all kinds of humanitarian and judicial support to the detainees and coordinate with the Sudanese authorities in Khartoum, Port Sudan and the Sudanese embassy in Cairo for their release, he said.
