Sudan’s decision on Iran ties right thing to do

Sudan’s decision to sever its diplomatic relations with Iran was the right thing to do, Sudanese Foreign Minister Ibrahim Ghandour said.

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry had asked the Iranian ambassador in Khartoum to leave with his diplomatic mission within two weeks, Ghandour told Sudanese newspaper “Al Ray Al Aam”.

Saudi Arabia announced Sunday cutting its diplomatic ties with Iran after demonstrators stormed the Saudi embassy in Tehran on Saturday in protest against Riyadh’s executions of 47 people convicted of terrorism, which include Shiite preacher Nimr al Nimr and al Qaeda ideologue Fares al Shuwail.

The demonstrators stormed the Saudi embassy building in the Iranian capital, smashed furniture and started fires before being ejected by the police. No Saudi embassy staff was in the building at the time.

A copycat protest at the Saudi consulate in the Iranian city of Mashhad broke out on Sunday.
