
Syria has congratulated the Tunisian people on the success of presidential election, a well-placed source at Foreign Ministry told SANA on Tuesday.The Tunisian people clearly determined its choices, the source said.
He voiced hope the polls could be an important step for stabilizing the country and restoring Tunisian key role in the region.
Tunisia’s High Electoral Commission announced Beji Caid Essebsi has won the presidential election with 55.68 percent of the vote, with a turnout rate of 66,11 percent.
Essebsi’s rival Moncef Marzouki secured 44.32 percent of the vote, the commission said on Monday.
