Tehran - FNA

The Syrian army made major advances in the Northern outskirts of Damascus, specially in two strategic towns. The army units pushed back terrorists from the strategic towns of Jobar and Meliha in Northern Damascus countryside. Military sources said that Jobar town was under the massive fire of the army for several hours resulting in the destruction of the militants' positions in there. Also in the past 24 hours, the Syrian army took control of hills and new spots in Lattakia in Western Syria. The army units regained control of Hill 1017 near Tashalma Mountain in Lattakia. The army took control of Al-Qareh Hill and Al-Zaraeh Tower near Tabyeen village. Meantime, a French website disclosed that the Persian Gulf tiny state of Qatar trains 100 militants every month and prepares them for being dispatched to Syria. Anfones Defense Internet website which specializes in defense affairs disclosed that the trained militants are equipped with GPS in English and Arabic languages as well as anti-tank missiles. Meantime, a military source said that Syrian army units in cooperation with the national defense forces have seized back full control over Height 724 to the North of Point 45 in the Northern countryside of Lattakia and inflicted heavy losses upon the armed groups. Also, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad submitted an application to the Supreme Constitutional Court announcing his candidacy for the upcoming presidential election in the country. Speaker of the People's Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham during a session held Monday said that the Assembly has received a notification from the Supreme Constitutional Court stating that Assad has submitted candidacy application to the Court, the state news agency reported. President Assad stressed that the happiness expressed by supporters of any presidential candidate should be manifested through national awareness and going to the ballot boxes on time. Elsewhere, units of the armed forces continued operations in the old city of Homs and regained control over a building near Mar Gorgeous Church, killing a number of terrorists and injuring others. A military source said that army units confronted an armed terrorist group which tried to attack a military checkpoint near Akiribate roundabout in Sha'ar Mountain, and killed more than 30 terrorists and destroyed 3 cars equipped with heavy machineguns with all the terrorists inside them. Meantime, units of the armed forces targeted an armed terrorist group near Dar al-Saadeh in al-Sean and destroyed 2 cars equipped with heavy machineguns on Deir foul–al-Sean al-Shamali road. The army units also destroyed a rocket launcher pad in al-Kuwaiti farm, killing a number of terrorists in Abu al-Anz farm, near the sports hall and the cultural center in Talbiseh. An army unit destroyed rocket launcher pad in al-Khaldieh village and a mortar in al-Ghanto village, killing and injuring a number of terrorists in Aidon, al-Ameriyeh, Burj Qaae, al-Nasiryeh neighborhood and Kafr Laha in Homs countryside. Also, German magazine Der Spiegel reported that Ukraine has been supplying arms to the militants in Syria in the last three years. The Ukrainian state concern Ukroboronprom sends weapons over Germany to Syria. Yet, the German foreign department denied the revelation in a statement saying, "It is not clear, to which place in Germany the weapons are transported." The rifles were sent to Germany for "modifications", an official said to der Spiegel. The magazine cited the American Think Tank Jamestown Foundation (connected with US-Spy Agencies). The Think Tank believes that the weapons are sent from Ukraine to the Syrian rebels via Germany. Jamestown speaks about a number over 54,000 rifles for militants supplied only in 2011 and 2012. "They could be used for covert operations in Syria," Jamestown said to Spiegel. The German government doesn't want to investigate the shipments. "It is scandalous, that the German government can't say anything about the actual place of the weapons," German lawmaker Sevim Dagdelen said. It would be very possible, that the weapons reached militants in Syria.
