Tunisia denied on Monday resuming diplomatic relations with Syria, saying naming a consul general in Damascus is just a more regular representation.
Tunisian representation in Syria is limited to the consular level, Foreign Minister Taieb Baccouche said in statements.
The remarks came following an uproar over Tunisia's appointment of Ibrahim Al Fawwari as its consul-general in the Syrian capital.
In 2012, Tunisia was the first country to cut its diplomatic relations with Syria, in protest at the military crackdown by the regime against the peaceful revolution.
There are more than 6,000 Tunisians living in Syria.
