Tunisian electors head for polls to choose their first ever elected president

Tunisian voters headed for polls on Sunday to choose their first elected president, due to serve in the 2014-2019 mandate, it was officially announced.
The voters, since early morning hours, have been flocking to the polls to elect their first elected top leader, after the democratic transition following the January 14th, 2011, popular revolution, peaked with ouster of the ex-president, Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali.
Around 27 nominees are competing for the top post and five others have withdrawn from the race. Up to 5.3 million Tunisians are eligible to vote in 11,000 electoral bureaus, based in and outside Tunisia.
The main contestants are the former prime minister, Beji Caid Essebsi, the incumbent President Moncef Marzouki, and president of the Constituent Assembly, Mustapha Ben Jaafar.
