Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki said on Thursday he was committed to ensuring immediate material and moral support of his nation's military in order to face the threat of terrorist groups.
He said that it was ever so crucial, under the current circumstances, to tackle these groups, who aim to destabilize the country and threaten the political interim process in the country, which is currently seeking to build a democratic and multi-cultural society.
Expressing confidence in the ability of the military during a meeting with the outgoing commander of the land forces, General Mohammed Salah Al-Hamedi, according to a presidential statement, he was also briefed on senior officer candidates, one of whom would be assuming control of land units after Al-Hamedi resigned earlier this month.
The Ministry of Defence had said a day earlier that Colonel Major Mohssen Al-Farissi would be assuming control of the land forces on a caretaker basis until the appointment of a predecessor.
