
Counting of votes started today at the polling stations for the fifth session of the Central Municipal Council elections after the end of voting which lasted for 9 hours.
Preliminary statistics and figures from inside the polling stations suggested that voters of both sexes accounted for about 70 percent of the total registered voters.
Competing in these elections are 114 candidates, including five women to occupy 26 seats of the Central Municipal Council seats out of 29 seats after the deduction of three constituencies won by acclamation.
Percentages of voter turnout in constituencies ranged between 51 and 48 percent according to preliminary figures.
The term of the Central Municipal Council's membership is for four years starting from the date of the first meeting, Members whose membership has expired could be re-elected for the next sessions.
