Al Wafd Party rejects the nomination of MP Ali Abdel Aal from the "For the Love of Egypt" Coalition as Parliament speaker, said MP from Al Wafd Party Hany Abaza.
In statements Monday, Abaza said that the parliamentary bloc of his party supports the nomination of Al Wafd's Bahaa Abu Shuka to be the speaker of the parliament.
Negotiations are underway to form the coalition of the Egyptian state, which is led by Al Wafd Party, he added.
Egypt's new parliament – which includes 596 members – will hold its opening procedural sitting on January 10.
