Social Solidarity Minister Ghada Wali has decided to disband 14 NGOs in three governorates.
Of all 14, 10 NGOs will be dissolved in the Upper Egyptian city of Minya and three in the Upper Egyptian city of Beni Sweif, Wali said in press statements Tuesday.
One Damietta-based NGO will as well be disbanded, she added.
The 14 NGOs will be dissolved in accordance with law and in line with decisions of a committee formed to implement a court ruling to ban Muslim Brotherhood activities and freeze their assets, Wali said.
She said she made the decision after consulting the General Federation of Associations and NGOs.
Moneys of those NGOs will go to the NGO Assistance Fund, the minister said, noting that work is underway to sort their assets.
Wali also directed that new boards of 21 NGOs, including 17 in the Delta city of Daqahliya, be formed.
Of those 21, new boards of two NGOs in each of the Upper Egyptian cities of Qena and Fayyoum will be formed, she noted.
This is the fifth group of NGOs that have been disbanded by court order for violating law.
In mid February, 169 NGOs were dissolved. Many others followed bringing the total number of NGOs disbanded by court orders to 434 until now.
Egypt is a state of law and the Social Solidarity Ministry is keen on implementing all court rulings against NGOs that violate law or change their original activities, Wali said.
She added that her Ministry, meanwhile, supports NGOs that serve public interests. Those carry out voluntary activities meant to serve and develop society in the first place, Wali said.
