The Ministry of Labour and Social Development has announced that employers must ensure their workers stay out of the sun between noon and 3 p.m. from June 15 to Sept. 15.
Fahad bin Abdullah Al-Awaidi, undersecretary for inspections and improvement of the work environment at the ministry, said only oil and gas workers are exempt, but measures must be taken to protect them, a local publication reported on Monday. Al-Awaidi said employers must comply.
He said that the ministry was trying to make the work environment safe, and prevent injuries and accidents that can affect productivity. Some areas that experience low temperatures would be exempt. There would be coordination with the secretariats of various regions to check weather conditions, he said.
