EGP 7.2 approved for 5 ministries in fiscal year budget

Environment Minister Khaled Fahmy has spoken highly of a project to produce biogas from agricultural waste.

So far, it has proven to be successful, Fahmy said in statements to MENA on Saturday.

He said his Ministry is seeking to turn the project, which is only implemented in certain villages, into a national project.

Biogas can replace butane gas cylinders, thus securing gas for citizens from their waste, Fahmy noted.

The project is so important that the Cabinet agreed to establish a civil, semi-governmental foundation to support it, the minister said.

The project is meant to achieve sustainable development in rural areas using bioenergy, he told MENA.

The foundation acts to use waste to produce biofuel and to support farmers with a permanent source of energy and biofertilizers, Fahmy noted.

Besides all this, the project will also secure jobs for youth, he added.

Fahmy made it clear that the project is being implemented in more than 800 villages.

A plant can very well be established to produce gas from waste, the minister said.
