Two Israeli Border Police officers were injured Wednesday morning after a Palestinian rammed his car into them in East Jerusalem, in a suspected run-over attack, police said.
"The attacker was shot by a third policeman on the scene and he is in a critical condition," a police spokesperson said.
The incident occurred near the At-Tur Junction, east of the Mount of Olives in the Arab East Jerusalem.
The Jerusalem Post added that residents of At-Tur began throwing rocks at security forces at the scene.
There have been bouts of vehicular attacks, as well as stabbing attacks, perpetrated against Israelis in the West Bank and Jerusalem, amid soaring tensions.
The mounting tensions are the result of the collapse of the peace talks last April, the Israeli military campaign in Gaza last summer, strife over accesses to the al-Aqsa mosque compound, a holy site to both Muslims and Jews, and constant clashes between Palestinian protesters and security forces.
