A Palestinian on Wednesday stabbed and wounded two Israeli soldiers outside a Palestinian village in the West Bank, Israeli officials said.
The assailant was shot dead by Israeli soldiers at the scene, according to a statement by the military.
Zaki Heler, a spokesperson with the Israeli rescue services, said that the victims are two men in their early twenties, one of them was stabbed in his neck, and the other man sustained light injuries in his back.
According to the military, the incident occurred outside the village of Turmus Aya in the northern West Bank on route 60, which connects the Palestinian cities of Ramallah and Nablus.
The incident came amid a surge of "lone wolf" attacks by Palestinians in the West Bank.
Last Thursday, a Palestinian worker stabbed an Israeli soldier near the Oranit checkpoint in the northern West Bank, after trying to cross over into Israel without permits.
The soldier was slightly wounded and the assailant was arrested on the spot.
Israel seized the West Bank in the 1967 Mideast war and has controlled it ever since.
