At least five people were seriously injured by a hand grenade explosion with the hallmarks of a terror attack in Tanzania's eastern region of Morogoro, police said on Saturday.
The explosion, which occurred on Friday evening, also damaged a car belonging to Kilombero district council, said eyewitnesses at Msolwa Ujamaa village in Kilombero district.
Leonard Paul, the Morogoro regional police commander, confirmed the incident but could not give any details.
Eyewitnesses said two suspects arrived in their village using a hired motorcycle, and they asked for a place where they could withdraw money from the mobile phone money transaction service.
"The suspects looked very strange and they were not settled, something that made us to order them to sit down as we tried to contact police," they said.
"As we were contacting police, one of the suspects tossed the grenade to the villagers, causing an uproar that the suspects used to run away," they said.
The grisly incident occurred hardly one month after a terror suspect was killed and 10 others were flushed out of a mosque at Nyandero village, also in Kilombero district, where they were found with explosives and an Al-Shabaab flag.
