A roadside bomb planted by the Taliban killed four police and injured three others in the northern Baghlan province on Monday; while the Afghan Interior Ministry claimed to have killed 26 armed insurgents across the country.
"The terrorists organized a roadside bomb which struck a police vehicle in Baghlan-e-Markazi district of the northern Baghlan province at noon time Monday, killing four police personnel and injuring three others," district governor Gohar Khan Babri told Xinhua.
Zabihullah Mujahid, who allegedly speaks for the Taliban in contact with media, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying the Taliban insurgents were behind the bombing.
Meanwhile, Afghan Interior Ministry said in a statement that 26 Taliban militants have been killed and 34 others wounded over the past 24 hours.
"Units of national police backed by the army have killed 26 Taliban fighters and injuring 34 others during series of operations across the country," the Interior Ministry said.
During the operations in Nangarhar, Kunduz, Sar-e-Pul, Kandahar, Maidan Wardak, Logar, Farah and Helmand provinces, another six more militants were arrested, the statement added.
It didn't elaborate if there were any casualties on the security personnel.
The Taliban group fighting against the government troops has yet to make comment.
Militancy and conflicts usually get momentum in spring and summer, commonly known as fighting season in the war-torn country.
