Jihad only meant to repel attacks

Jihad (holy war) was adopted by Islam only to fend off attacks, Azhar Undersecretary Abbas Shoman said on Wednesday.
During a lecture held at the Police Academy, Shoman urged the youth not to be misled by the terrorist groups, which seek to spread wrong concepts about Jihad and caliphate.
"Azhar is exerting strenuous efforts to confront such terrorist groups and refute their claims," he said.
Shoman lauded steps taken by the Egyptian army and police to protect the state during this critical period.
