Edinson Cavani has extended his contract with Napoli until 2017. The Uruguayan striker's decision to commit himself to the Serie A club for a further five years ends speculation linking the 25-year-old with a last-minute departure from the San Paolo this evening. A statement on I Partenopei's website also confirmed the double capture of defenders Giandomenico Mesto and Bruno Uvini from Genoa and Sao Paolo respectively. Cavani has emerged as one of Europe's hottest properties since joining Napoli from Palermo in 2010, scoring 49 goals in 63 appearances under coach Walter Mazzarri. He has also been an influential figure on the world stage, earning 40 caps since his international debut in 2008 and playing a key role as Uruguay reached the semi-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in South Africa.
