Chelsea FC remained first in the Barclays Premier League after comfortably defeating West Ham United 2-0 at Stamford Bridge here on Friday.
John Terry and Spanish international Diego Costa grabbed the goals at minutes 32 and 62 in an impressive display as the fourth-placed visitors were brushed aside.
Chelsea entered the match looking to ensure they remained at the summit irrespective of how Manchester City did at West Bromwich Albion later in the day.
Chelsea dominated majority of the match, entering the break 1-0 ahead as Terry scored in back-to-back matches for the first time in a decade.
Even an added urgency could not spark a turnaround for West Ham after the restart, with Costa firing home his 13th goal in 15 Barclays Premier League outings since moving to Chelsea.
West Ham rarely threatened to get back into the match from there, although Morgan Amalfitano struck a post late on.
"We deserved it. We played a very good game against a difficult opponent. When we scored, I think we always had the game under control. They had a reaction in the second half but the second gave us further control, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho stated.
