England midfielder Gareth Barry has been ruled out of the European Championship because of a stomach injury. The Football Association says a scan confirmed Monday that the Manchester City player has torn a muscle in his lower abdomen. Barry has been replaced in the squad by Everton centre back Phil Jagielka, meaning versatile defender Phil Jones is likely to act as cover for England in central midfield. England manager Roy Hodgson says "I'm very disappointed to lose Gareth — not only was he a member of my original 23-man squad but he has featured prominently in the England team over the last few years." Barry was one of City's best players at the end of the Premier League season as the club clinched its first title in 44 years.
