Germany's Olympic gold medal-winning men's field hockey team's post-victory revelry has produced a $628,000 bill, management of a cruise ship says. German newspaper Bild reported Tuesday the management of the MS Deutschland, where the party following Germany's Aug. 11 victory over the Netherlands in the London Olympics was held, tallied the bill for damage and lost earnings at about 500,000 euros. The German Hockey Association said it had not gotten the bill, and TheLocal.de said it had not been determined who would be responsible for the tab. TheLocal.de reported the cruise company claims the players were responsible for holes burned in the ship's teak paneling, a broken pane of glass and stains from spilled drinks. The bill zoomed skyward, however, because of extra time the ship had to stay docked for the repairs -- 75,000 euros ($94,000) a day. "The carpets and upholstery cannot be replaced while the ship is in use," Deilmann shipping company spokeswoman Kornelia Kneissl told Bild. TheLocal.de said the players apologized for the damage and gave the owners a signed hockey stick.
