Lazio captain Stefano Mauri has signed a one-year contract extension with the Biancoceleste outfit, the Italian Serie A club confirmed on Friday. Mauri, whose previous deal expires next month, had been linked with a move away from the Rome-based outfit this summer.
A statement from Lazio read: "Lazio announces it has renewed the contract of captain Stefano Mauri for the duration of one year." The 34-year-old midfielder could not hide his delight as he will remain for a ninth straight season at Lazio.
"Still together," Mauri said on his Facebook account. "I am proud to represent the Biancoceleste colours, I'm proud to be the captain of this team. Always Forza Lazio."
Mauri scored four goals in 12 league appearances for Lazio, who finished ninth in the standings.
