Liverpool football club wins double monthly award

Liverpool were awarded for their table-topping performance by winning the best manager and best player awards for the month of August, the English Premier League announced Friday. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers won the Barclay's Manager of the Month for guiding his team to three 1-0 victories in August, including one over arch-rivals Manchester United. The three wins guaranteed Liverpool have a perfect start to the league, earning nine points out of nine. Under his leadership this season Liverpool showed the flexibility and determination to perform beautiful attacking football as well as disciplined defensive styles to win the three matches. For his part, in-form Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge won the Barclay's Player of the Month for his match-winning performances during the month of August. Sturridge scored all the goals of his team's three 1-0 victories this month. He also scored a brace in his team Capital One Cup victory, where they won 4-2 against Notts County. Sturridge won another prize as well, Goal of the Month for his skillful goal against Aston Villa. He has scored 16 goals in 20 appearances for Liverpool. Source: QNA
