Rudi Garcia has been rewarded for guiding Roma to a second-placed finish in Italy's Serie A with a new three-year contract. The French coach arrived in Rome last summer after spending five years with Lille - Les Dogues won France's Ligue 1 in 2011 - and promptly led the Giallorossi into a convincing challenge for the Scudetto.
Juventus eventually overhauled their southern rivals to win a third straight Scudetto but Garcia restored UEFA Champions League football to the Stadio Olimpico. He has now been given a mandate of helping transform Roma into a "world-class football team".
Roma President James Pallotta told his club's official website: "I am pleased to announce that Rudi Garcia and Roma have agreed to a three-year extension beyond his original contract.
"As I have said many times in the past, after I spent the first 30 minutes with Rudi in New York last year, I knew he would be the right choice to lead Roma for hopefully a long time. This extension is an integral part of our plan to bring continuity to our overall operational success.
"Roma's ownership and management have been on the same page in regard to how to build a world-class football team. This is one more step in accomplishing our long-term vision. We are only at the beginning of our and Roma fans' journey and we once again thank Rudi, his staff and all of Roma for a wonderful start to what I hope will be a great future for our fans worldwide."
Under the terms of his new contract, the 50-year-old from Nemours will remain in the Roma dugout until June 2018.
