Schalke were left counting the cost of Tuesday's 2-2 Champions League draw with Arsenal after losing Japanese defender Atsuto Uchida and midfielder Marco Höger to injury. Uchida limped out of the match after 25 minutes with a thigh injury, to be replaced by defensive midfielder Hoger, but worse was to follow when Hoger had to come off in the 66th minute with a leg injury. Both are expected to be out of action for several weeks. Schalke, who are top of their Champions League group and second in the Bundesliga, seven points behind Bayern Munich, entertain struggling Werder Bremen in Gelsenkirchen on Saturday.
