London - Arabstoday

While France were busy chalking up a maiden FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup triumph in Azerbaijan, the league action continued unabated around the world. In the newly crowned U-17 champions’ home country, Olympique Lyon maintained their seemingly irresistible run. In the German Bundesliga, FFC Frankfurt bounced back from a shock cup exit, and in England, champions Arsenal added another trophy to their collection. FIFA.com reviews the weekend action in Europe's top women's leagues. England: More silverware for Arsenal Arsenal LFC wrapped up the Women's Super League (WSL) title a while ago, defending their crown without losing a single league fixture. Coach Laura Harvey's side added more silverware to their haul with a narrow 1-0 victory over Birmingham City in the FA WSL Continental Cup, the only goal of the rerun of last season's final coming from Kim Little eight minutes from time. Little refused to sit back and bask in the latest triumph afterwards: "We’ve gone unbeaten in the league and we were really disappointed not to get to the FA Cup final. To win this makes up for that and we’ve won another double. Every season our aim is to win everything. That’s why we’re at a club like Arsenal. The next step for us is the Champions League and we want to be successful in that while keeping up our domestic stance," the goalscorer was quoted as saying afterwards on the club's homepage. In the UEFA Women's Champions League, the Gunners are through to the last sixteen where they meet strong German opposition in the shape of Turbine Potsdam. Germany: Frankfurt maintain lead at the top FFC Frankfurt are already out of the German FA (DFB) Cup, but it is all going according to plan for the Hesse outfit in the Bundesliga. FFC beat promoted Sindelfingen 3-0 to keep their noses in front of Turbine Potsdam, although the champions do have a game in hand. Turbine edged out Bayern Munich 2-1 courtesy of a brace from match winner Genoveva Anonma. Elsewhere, Wolfsburg dropped points for the first time this season in a goalless draw against a strong Essen side, while Jena leapfrogged Sindelfingen at the bottom of the table thanks to a 2-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen. Top three: FFC Frankfurt (13 points), Turbine Potsdam (12), Wolfsburg (10) France: Lotta goals for Sweden’s Schelin Division 1 Feminin leaders Olympique Lyon boast a perfect record of five wins from five matches and - with four points for a win - the maximum haul of 20 points. Coach Patrice Lair’s team look unstoppable at the moment and cruised to a 4-0 victory over Juvisy on Saturday. Swedish icon Lotta Schelin bagged a hat-trick with the other goal coming from Laetitia Tonazzi. Behind Lyon, Paris St-Germain thrashed Arras Football 6-0 to go third. Germany international Linda Bresonik added her name to the scoresheet on this occasion. FF Yzeure slipped to fourth after a 2-0 defeat to Guingamp. Top three: Lyon (20), Montpellier (18), Paris St-Germain (16) Sweden: Neck and neck between Malmo and Tyreso Malmo and Tyreso continued their bitter scrap for the lead in the Damallsvenskan. Tyreso struck the first blow of the weekend with a 2-0 victory over Kristianstad on Sunday, Kirsten van de Ven contributing a double strike to her team's success. Leaders Malmo responded the following day, racking up a 5-0 victory over AIK to restore their five-point lead over Tyreso. The champions were again indebted to Anja Mittag and hat-trick hero Ramona Bachmann for their latest win. From Fifa
