The Hammers manager Sam Allardyce said: "Andy was pleased to choose us ahead of a number of other clubs and I'm glad to say we've got a top quality player for West Ham. I first tried a long time ago and it didn't look like happening but I'm glad it has." QPR have signed Esteban Granero from Real Madrid, while Southampton have signed Japan defender Maya Yoshida who starred at the Olympics.
