American Nick Delpopolo, who competed in judo at the Olympics, was disqualified from the Games Monday following a positive test for marijuana. Delpopolo reached the quarterfinals in the 73-kilogram class before finishing seventh, but that performance will be removed from the Olympic record book. The U.S. Olympic Committee issued a statement from Delpopolo that said his positive test was caused by an "inadvertent consumption of food that I did not realize had been baked with marijuana." He said the incident occurred prior to the Olympics. "I apologize to U.S. Olympic Committee, to my teammates, and to my fans, and I am embarrassed by this mistake," the statement said. "I look forward to representing my country in the future, and will re-dedicate myself to being the best judo athlete that I can be." A USOC spokesperson said it supported the disqualification. "Any positive test, for any banned substance, comes with the appropriate consequences," the USOC statement said.
