Atlanta, Georgia New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez smashed his 23rd career grand slam home run on Tuesday to match Major League Baseball’s all-time grand slam record set by Yankees legend Lou Gehrig. Rodriguez smacked the ball over the left-field wall with the bases loaded in the eighth inning to pull New York even with Atlanta at 4-4. Nick Swisher hit a two-run homer later in the eighth for the last runs in New York’s 6-4 victory. The blast off Braves pitcher Jonny Venters put “A-Rod”, in his 19th Major League Baseball season, equal with Gehrig, who played 17 seasons for the Yankees. The Yankees won their fifth game in a row and 15th in 19 games to stand 36-25, claiming sole possession of the American League East division lead by a game over Baltimore and Tampa Bay.Rodriguez scored his 1,859th career run on the grand slam, matching Mel Ott for 11th on that all-time list. With 1,922 runs batted in over his career, Rodriguez ranks seventh all-time, two shy of sixth-place Jimmie Foxx.from gulfnews.com
