Grant Balfour picked up his 21st save. The A's staff held the Rangers scoreless after the first inning. The Rangers took an early 2-0 lead on an RBI double by Josh Hamilton but Oakland scored a run in the second and tied the game in the fourth on Chris Carter's 16th home run of the season. The A's staff recorded seven strikeouts in the game, but the Rangers combined for 15 strikeouts.
