Yoenis Cespedes homered, tripled and drove in three runs Saturday for the Oakland Athletics, who extended their July surge with a 6-1 win over Baltimore. Cespedes opened the scoring with a two-run shot in the fourth inning and capped Oakland's 11-hit attack with a run-scoring three-bagger in the eighth. Chris Carter added a home run with Cespedes aboard in the sixth and Eric Sogard supplied an RBI single for the red-hot A's, who improved to 18-3 in July with their ninth win in 10 games overall. Bartolo Colon (7-8) twirled 5 2/3 shutout frames, scattering seven hits while walking one and striking out five. Baltimore's Tommy Hunter (4-6) surrendered five runs on seven hits in a 5 1/3-inning stint, striking out seven. Nick Markakis homered for the Orioles, who fell for the fifth time in six contests.
