John Jaso singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning Wednesday and Brandon League picked up his eighth save in the Seattle Mariners' 2-1 win over Detroit. The teams combined for just nine hits and Detroit's only run came on a sacrifice fly from Austin Jackson in the sixth that forged a 1-1 tie. The score was still deadlocked in the eighth when Michael Saunders led off the inning with a double against Luke Putkonen (0-1). Saunders moved to third on a sacrifice by Chone Figgins and, after Duane Below relieved Putkonen, Jaso singled to left to bring home the winning run. Jason Vargas (4-2) threw 90 pitches over eight innings and gave up five hits with six strikeouts to get the win. League walked Jackson to lead off the bottom of the ninth, but Brennan Boesch grounded into a double play and Miguel Cabrera flew out to deep center to end the game. The Mariners have won four of their last five.
