St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese was unhurt after crashing his sport utility vehicle into a tree while avoiding a deer in the road, police say. Authorities said Freese crashed his 2011 black Range Rover into a tree while driving along a suburban St. Louis road at 2:30 p.m. Friday, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. St. Louis County Police Officer Randy Vaughn said the player was able to avoid the deer and was already outside his car when officers arrived on an "accident with injury" call. Vaughn said Freese talked with officers and refused medical treatment, and no charges will be filed. Freese -- who set career highs with 20 home runs and 79 RBI last season -- was to meet with team doctors during the weekend to scan for any physical injuries, General Manager John Mozeliak told the newspaper. "I think we're all relieved to hear he wasn't hurt," he said. "That's the bottom line -- the fact that no one here was injured. I don't think there will be any issues for him coming from this."
