Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe will miss England's friendly against Brazil on Wednesday due to the ankle injury he sustained at West Brom today. Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas confirmed in his post-match press conference that Defoe would be withdrawn from Roy Hodgson's squad ahead of the Wembley clash. Defoe suffered the injury in the first half at The Hawthorns, when he landed awkwardly on his left ankle after avoiding a challenge from Shane Long and was substituted. Villas-Boas said Defoe would be sent for a scan to determine the extent of the damage. Villas Boas said: "I am extremely happy with the win - apart from the injury to Jermain Defoe. He rolled his ankle. He will have to have a scan to reveal th extent of the injury. "Hopefully there is not a lot of ligament damage. If there is, he could be out for two to three weeks. Has he been withdrawn from the England squad? Yes he has." From FIFA
