A 1-1 draw between FC Krasnodar and Lille in Russia on Thursday allowed Everton to qualify for the last 32 of the Europa League from Group H.
Nolan Roux's second-half header for Lille cancelled out Ari's opener as the bottom two teams in the group shared the points, a result that means neither can now catch the Premier League side.
Everton have eight points from four games, four more than Lille and five more than Krasnodar, and a win away to Wolfsburg on Thursday will see them secure first place in the section.
They led 1-0 at half-time in Germany thanks to a 43rd-minute strike by Romelu Lukaku.
In the other early game on Thursday, Dinamo Moscow beat PSV Eindhoven to secure qualification for the last 32 as winners of Group E.
