Promising Fijian fullback Metuisela Talebula said on Friday he had signed a contract with French Top 14 club Bordeaux-Begles. Talebula, a former sevens star, broke into the national team this month, scoring three tries in two Test matches against Scotland and Tonga. The 21-year-old, who reportedly spurned advances from French clubs Clermont and Toulouse earlier this year, said he was now ready to move overseas after achieving his dream of playing for the Flying Fijians. "I have signed with Bordeaux-Begles," he said. "I'm still 21 years old and have a long way to go in my rugby career, so I decided to play overseas as it will help me develop the way I play." Winger Watisoni Votu said he was on the verge of signing with English Premiership club Exeter. "The level of competition there will make me a better rugby player," he said.
