Francois Trinh-Duc, Montpellier's French international fly-half, could make his first appearance since breaking his leg in October in the Top 14 clash with Toulouse on Saturday.
"I hope Francois will be able to take part in the match, either as a replacement or in the starting line-up and I hope he'll be able to add something to the team," the club's South African coach Jake White told a press conference on Tuesday.
Trinh-Duc, 28, has been out of action since breaking his leg against Oyonnax on October 11 and will decide on Thursday or Friday whether he is ready to play.
He has been back in training for around five weeks but has not wanted to hurry his return to action and turned down the chance to play in the 15-15 draw with La Rochelle last weekend.
But his main aim is to be fit for the World Cup in England in September and October.
Montpellier, currently ninth in the Top 14 table, take on Toulouse in a match which could prove crucial for their qualification for the season's final stages.
