India were bowled out for 457 on the second day of the first Test against England at Trent Bridge on Thursday.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was last man out for 58 after sharing an India tenth-wicket record stand against England of 111 with Mohammed Shami (51 not out), both batsmen recording their maiden Test fifties.
Earlier, opener Murali Vijay made 146 -- his first overseas Test century -- and India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni 82.
James Anderson led England's attack with three for 123 in 38 overs, while Stuart Broad had miserly figures of two for 53 in 33.
But, in what threatens to be a problem for England in a five-Test series crammed into six weeks, part-time off-spinner Moeen Ali -- who did eventually dismiss Kumar -- saw his lone wicket cost 97 runs in 18 expensive overs.
