Ireland had collapsed to 56 for four off 18 overs when rain stopped play at 12:00pm local time (1100 GMT) in their lone one-day international against England at Malahide on Friday.
Ed Joyce was 23 not out and Gary Wilson unbeaten on three after Ireland captain William Porterfield won the toss.
Paul Stirling was run out for two and Porterfield bowled by Mark Wood for seven, while Niall O'Brien and Andrew Balbirnie were both caught in the slips for 10 and five off Tim Bresnan and David Willey respectively.
Durham paceman Wood and Northamptonshire all-rounder Willey, the son of former England batsman Peter, were two of five England players making their one-day international debuts on Friday.
The others were the Surrey pair of Jason Roy and Zafar Ansari and Hampshire batsman James Vince.
