The Free State Stars trainer has been added to the Bafana Bafana technical bench ahead of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers in June. The South African Football Association (Safa) has finally confirmed the appointment of Steve Komphela as assistant to Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane. The news has long been doing the rounds, and this week a leaked email among Safa top brass confirmed what most had already known, but it took until Thursday for the governing body to confirm the news.“I think it’s no longer a rumour or secret that Steve Komphela is the assistant coach,” Safa’s head of technical committee, Fanyana Sibanyoni said.“He has been there for the national team before and knows the team very well. We are happy that Komphela agreed to help the national team so that we achieve our goals to reach the 2014 World Cup and also do very well in the next year's Afcon here at home.“We also want to thank Free State Stars for allowing him to come and work with the national team. We wish him all the best in his new role as the assistant national team coach.”
