Sharapova breezes into Madrid 3rd round

Maria Sharapova breezed into the third round of the Madrid Open on Tuesday, ousting the Czech Republic's Klara Zakopalova in straight sets. The Russian world No. 2 took less than 80 minutes to dispatch the world No. 44 , 6-4, 6-3, continuing a dominant run of form that saw her beat world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka in the Stuttgart final last month. Next up for Sharapova, who demolished Romania's Irina-Camelia Begu 6-0, 6-3 in the first round, is Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro or another Czech in world No. 23 Lucie Safarova. The $5.2 million Madrid Open is being played on blue clay that has attracted criticism from some players as acting differently to the traditional orange surfaces.
