Tokyo - Arab Today

Japanese all-around champion Kohei Uchimura and women's titleholder Simone Biles added to their medal tally as both claimed a second gold at the world gymnastic championships on Sunday. Biles, already the women's all-around champion, won gold in the floor final, as Uchimura claimed the sixth world title of his career with gold on the parallel bars. US champion Biles proved the revelation of Antwerp as competing in her first senior event she went home to Texas with four medals. She scored 15.000 on the floor to beat Italy's Vanessa Ferrari, the 2006 world all-around champion, who scored 14.633. The 16-year-old also won silver on the vault and bronze on the balance beam at these championships. The United States had their most successful worlds as they won an unprecedented 12 medals this week -- three more than the previous record from Melbourne in 2005. The US men won four medals, but did not win a title, as the women's team medalled in every event with Kyla Ross taking three silvers and McKayla Maroney the world vault title. The Americans nevertheless finished second on the medals table behind the Uchimura-inspired Japanese who won four titles for a total of seven medals. Uchimura became the first man to win four all-around world titles, and on the final day shared the parallel bars crown with China's Lin Chaopan. Both Uchimura and Lin scored 15.666, with John Orozco of the United States taking bronze, 15.533. The 24-year-old Uchimura also took bronze on the high bar which was won by Olympic champion Epke Zonderland of the Netherlands ahead of Germany's Fabian Hambuechen. Zonderland gave an acrobatic display which earned him 16.000 and his first world gold after two silvers at previous worlds, with Hambuechen scoring 15.933 and Uchimura 15.633. Russian star Aliya Mustafina got back to winning ways by taking gold on the beam -- her first world title in three years. It was the third medal this week for Mustafina, winner of four Olympic medals in London last year, after taking bronze in the all-around and on the uneven bars. The 19-year-old scored 14.900 points to take gold and the eighth world medal of her career ahead of Ross (14.833) and Biles (14.333). South Korean vault king Yang Hak-seon successfully defended his title. The 20-year-old Olympic champion scored 15.553 to take gold ahead of American Steven Legendre (15.249) and Britain's Kristian Thomas (15.233). Three years before the Rio Olympics, Brazil can boast their own star with Arthur Zanetti adding the world rings title to his 2012 Olympic gold. From: AFP
