French sprinter Jimmy Vicaut clinched the European indoor men's 60m title on Saturday, taking the gold medal after a photo-finish with Britain's James Dasaolu. Both men clocked 6.48sec, the best time in the world this season, but the Frenchman got the nod with Italy's Michael Tumi taking bronze in 6.52sec. "I don't know what to say. I didn't understand what happened. I crossed the line, looked for the result and nothing," said the 21-year-old. "Then I saw my name and I was very happy." There was also a season-best performance in the men's triple jump where Italy's Daniele Greco took gold with 17.70m. Russia's Ruslan Samitov claimed silver with a leap of 17.30m off his fifth attempt with fellow Aleksey Fyodorov settling for bronze on 17.12m.Russia took silver and bronze in the men's high jump thanks to Sergey Mudrov and Aleksey Dmitrik while Jaroslav Baba of the Czech Republic won bronze. With a jump of 2.35m, and despite three failures at 2.37m, Mudrov saw off the challenge of his compatriot whose best was 2.33m. Baba's highest was 2.31m. Sweden's Abeba Aregawi delighted the home crowd by taking gold in the 1,500m, shrugging off the attentions of Spain's Isabel Macias to win in 4:04.47. Macias finished in 4:14.19 with Poland's Katarzyna Broniatowska third in 4:14.30. Britain's Holly Bleasdale was crowned women's polevault champion thanks to a best of 4.67m, ahead of Poland's Anna Rogowska and Russia's Anzhelika Sidorova. Bleasdale and Rogowska both cleared 4.67m before they failed three times at 4.72m. But Bleasdale took gold having cleared 4.67m at her first attempt. Sidorova completed the podium with 4.62m.
