Prior to the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™, FIFA introduced the ‘20 Centres for 2010’ program. As the official tournament campaign, its aim was to create 20 Football for Hope Centres to promote public health, education and football in disadvantaged communities across Africa. Yet even earlier, shortly before the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany kicked off, FIFA demonstrated that it is committed to more than just sport and putting on successful tournaments. The '6 Villages for 2006' initiative was the official project of the competition and, together with SOS Children's Villages, collected donations to fund the construction of six new SOS Children's Villages in Brazil, Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa, Vietnam and Ukraine.
