Algeria and FC Sochaux midfielder Ryad Boudebouz was fiercely attacked by home fans during last Saturday’s 3-1 league defeat against Montpellier. The fans held a banner reading “Ryad leave” and Boudebouz also said that he suffered racist insults during the game. “When you hear ‘Leave you dirty Arab, you don’t belong here,’ it hurts, especially in your home club,” he told radio station RMC. Last summer, the 22-year-old international revealed his desire to move to Marseille, but the deal collapsed and the club’s supporters apparently grabbed their chance to retaliate. “The club gives its full support to the player and condemns these acts, which will face legal sanctions when the authors are identified,” a statement on the FC Sochaux website read on Monday. The club also announced that there will be stricter security measures in the upcoming weeks to prevent such incidents. (ahram)
