Atletico Madrid have unveiled plans for a new 70,000-capacity stadium which is set to replace the existing Vicente Calderon as their home from 2015. Club dignitaries gathered to promote the new venue, with work having already begun on it. Atletico believe the stadium will be worthy of hosting major national, continental and international sporting and entertainment events once it is completed. Atletico president Enrique Cerezo said at the presentation in comments reported by the club's official website: "Today is an important day, I would say that it is one of the most important days in the history of this club. "There are not many times one has the opportunity to live a historical moment as relevant, in the life of a sports club, as this."
