Alcorcon coach Juan Antonio Anquela will take charge of Granada next season after reaching an agreement to join the Andalusian club. Anquela took Alcorcon to within two games of reaching La Liga for the first time in their history this season, but after finishing fourth they lost out 2-1 on aggregate to Valladolid in the promotion play-off final. Granada finished 17th in their first year back in the top tier after a 35-year absence, but, despite securing survival on a dramatic final day, Abel Resino announced his intention to leave the club two weeks ago after just a six-month spell at the club. Anquela had been approached by president Quique Pina before Resino was appointed in January but at that time resisted the temptation to move up a division as he wanted to complete the season with Alcorcon. The 54-year-old had been in charge of the Madrid side for just over four years and is best known for guiding the Fiebre Amarilla to a remarkable 4-1 aggregate win over Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey in 2009. Later that season Alcorcon were promoted to the Segunda for the first time ever and they finished comfortably in the top ten in their debut campaign. This season they improved further still and after finishing in the top-six they progressed to the playoff final with an away goals victory over Hercules. However, a 1-0 defeat at home to Valladolid was too much to overcome as despite a spirited performance in the second leg a 1-1 draw saw Los Pucelanos return to the Primera just two years after being relegated.
