Atletico Mineiro remained two points clear of Vasco da Gama at the Brazilian Campeonato summit after both teams enjoyed victories on Saturday. The leaders went a goal down at Sport Recife to a 26th-minute Gilberto strike, but Danilinho got the visitors back on level terms before half-time and further goals after the break from Ronaldinho, Jo and Bernard sealed a 4-1 away triumph. Vasco picked up a more straightforward three points with a 2-0 success against Santos, Douglas and Alecsandro the men on target. Also on Saturday, Corinthians' less than impressive start to the campaign continued with a 1-1 draw at home to Portuguesa. Douglas secured the point for the Copa Libertadores winners in the 50th minute after Heverton had opened the scoring on the half-hour mark, but the result did little for either team's hopes of getting out of the bottom half of the standings.
